SD22 sounds like rattlesnake

SD22, need shop manual or photos of inside front of motor.
I am hearing she does and does not have a timing chain?
she is making a timing chain like rattle, when shifting and at certain rpm's

I am in costa rica and these things are all over, but i fear the "mechanics" here.

The SD diesel engines do not have a timing chain.

Are you certain that the noise is from the engine? The transmissions are prone to bearing failure, and can make rattling noises when they do. Can you make the noise with the clutch pedal depressed/

Thank you Al for your reply, closer inspection revealed a fan that was about to fly off. I just got the thing and it is loose all over.
I once had a hillman like yours, one of my favorite cars ever, i'm thinking it was a '59 or so, i still have a picture of us camping at S.I.R. back in the days.
