Nissan sd25 rebuild

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Nissan sd25 rebuild

#1

Post by Jud0228 »

I have an old sd 25 that i am going to be rebuilding for a convertion. I found a rebuild kit on ebay but it says it is for fork trucks. Does anyone know what the difference would be or does anyone know of a better way to find a rebuild kit for this motor?

I can see no difference in the two engines.
The biggest difference would be in how the accessories fit on.
Exhaust manifold will be different and the starter ( perhaps ) , and perhaps even how the alternator or intake fits on but strip all those off and it would be the same.

You will have to pull your old crank and get it measured so you know what size of brgs/thrust washers to order

That is actually a not bad price for that kit.

IMO that is

Yes they are a pretty good motor. The 25's have a more robust bottom end as the 22's only had 3 mains and the 25's have 5. Other than that they were pretty much the same. They have different fuel pumps as the 25's in the Canadian version of the D21 has the VE style with the CSD etc. and the 22's and 25's in the 720's had the inline.

The agricultural/forklift/marine versions of SDs often seem to have five-ring pistons, vs the three-ring version in automotive trim. Not that that makes a heckuva difference, but it bears noting.

See this thread for more info.
