WTB: LD28 crank harmonic balancer

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

WTB: LD28 crank harmonic balancer

I found an engine but am still in need of a balancer. If you have one for sale or trade let me know.:D

Hey guys.

I bought a LD28 about 2 years ago with the intent to put it into my 260Z if and when the motor finally failed. It was a matter of time with 20lbs of boost. I pulled it out of storage about a month ago and as i got it out the door of my c train container a few small peices of cast iron fell out from behind the alternator bracket which on the LD is a big peice of cast that goes over where a PCV pipe would come out on a L. #1 had popped out the side. I turned the engine by hand and pressure washed it before I put it in storage. I guess I should have done a comp check. I am no in need of another LD28. I would prefer a industrial version of the engine. Ive checked with 2 places in central Cali of which only one of those places had them. They had very old stock of the engine and wanted an arm and a leg for a short block. Block and crank for $1000 whole engine for $1750 which is a bit high. Ive bought them from engine distributors before for around $350 whole engine! I have a Maxima block and I can get a crank of ebay for about $250 I would prefer a whole bottom end from an industrial to save a little cash. Im hurten a bit in the pocket with this car. Im not totally broke Im just pushen a budget with DD and could focus on my other cars. So to the point.

Does anyone know where I could look even if it has to be shipped to Cali for a LD28 industrial bottom end.

I have a VH45DE that runs and would be willing to trade it for a running industrial motor with good compression. Its that or Ill figure out how to weld up some square tube and stick the VH under the hood. I like the 6 cylinder better. Call me crazy.

Thanks guys for your help [/i]

I have 3 LD28 engines total of which: I have 3 heads, 1 maxima intake, 1 egr equiped exhaust manifold, 1 non egr exhaust manifold, a maxima block with rods and pistons, a crank to anyone who wants to fiddle with trying to magniflux it, 3 or 4 extra L28 turbo exhaust manifolds, 2 alternators, 2 front timing covers with everything still on them, 1 auto box, 2 sets of rods and pistons, and pretty much a bunch of Datsun L and LD parts. If somone wants to barter and or take some cash I need a good bottom end or complete engine. Depending on what is available I may need some of the listed parts of course, but it all depends on what you may have.

DMS,

Have you ever had any dealings with Jesco? You've probably seen the thread that links to their auction. They seem to be auctioning a bunch of their engines right now. Not sure if they are getting out of Nissans altogether or just thinning the herd. I would like to get my hands on the SAE bellhousing and clutch from an industrial LD. I've talked to Jesco a little bit about it, but mostly have played phone tag.

I corresponded with them about an LD some time back. They were in the 1400 range for a complete engine. They are pretty big but I don't think they are the place I was talking to. Unfortunately that is all I know.

I can say this about the LD. It is an older engine that really has thinned out. So it makes sense for the engine distributors to try and dump them before they end up with a useless stock pile. All Engine Distributing scrapped out their stock and sold the cranks for the L series stroker kits. The rest of the engine was recycled minus the injection pumps and balancers. So this may be a sign of the end for the LD. The same goes for the L series in general. The only source for L series engines is in the JY.

Ray, did you ever get a harmonic balancer? Is so, post a note in this thread.

I picked up a core harmonic balancer in two pieces from an '81 Sedan today. It is in decent condition; crank pirates bashed on an edge to remove it, but it's only cosmetic. It is rebuildable -- ie an outfit like Damper Doctor or Dale Mfg can re-laminate it. If you want it, PM me.
