first trip in the maxi

made my first trip in the maxi wagon. 1983 with OD. she runs real nice. a lot smoother and quieter than I expected. very good pick up too.

anyway, I ran to Fort Worth and back. probably average speed of 75-80, mostly interstate and 4-lane. Averaged about 27.5 up and 28.5 back. Guess that is 28 MPG while pushing hard all day long. Probably 900+ miles total.

I'm guessing top speed was 90+ The speedo stopped at 85 and would not go any higher even though I can hear & feel the engine/car still accelerating. Letting off the pedal I had to give a good 4-5 count before the needle would back off of pegged at 85.

I'm really going to like this car. I always missed my 82 wagon. I foolishly let her go about 3 years ago. But was only good for under 80. Amazing what an extra gear will do.

My box-stock '82 Wagon goes much higher than 85, without OD. I don't have anyplace around here where that speed is practical, however, so I don't do it very often, maybe once a month.
