CL (Atlanta, Ga) 1983 datsun maxima - $525

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

Yeah, we'll see what it looks like. He said the car was a daily driver until about a year ago when his son got a company car. I'm not looking for a beauty queen. Something I can commute in and play with.

I'll let you know if I am able to drive it back home or not (about 3 hrs away)... wish me luck, I may need it...

While Gen1 Maxima diesels have admirably few show-stopper issues, this would be a good time to interject that my IP belt stripped in my driveway 1000 mi. after I bought it from the original owner, and the morning after a 500 mi. trip.

Even good cars can be felled by poor maintenance. Or a few runs through the woods, I assume.

Take a fuel filter with you, and learn how to bleed the IP after changing it. You may not need it, but you'll need it sooner or later (so it's not wasted money), and having it means you don't have to try to find one in a pinch (they only fit the Sentra diesel and Maxima diesel).

1983 uses its own oil filter -- for a good reason. Get one ahead of time.

You may want to read the FAQ for more 1983-specific information.

Al S.

Thanks for the words of encouragement AND advise! I'm looking forward to it. I have been reading through the forum here for a month or more trying to soak up as much info as I can. The internet has been a real boon for old car hobbiest.

Take care,

Eric
