Are they hard to get?
I'm certain that Nissan still supplies them for the SD, since it was used for so many years.

Depending on the year of your SD, the head gasket might be
10101-V0627 -> A0101-V062H Gskt Kit Eng, $192 + $24 shipping
That's the entire engine gasket set.
The head gasket has two Nissan part Nos, depending on the production date:
S22 12/81-onward lists this one:
11044-V1702 Gskt.cyl Head, $79 + $33 shipping
Where have you been trying to find the gaskets? Are they not available in the aftermarket any more?
Lastly, forklift suppliers are often able to get SD parts, as are marine diesel rebuilders, because the SD was used in those applications for many more years than in the 720 PUs.

My local NAPA can get both, stock is good. Stock is in Illinois, special order, UPS Ground shipping to be paid by customer, non-returnable.asavage wrote:You might look at NAPA FelPro head gasket FPG 8991B for $55.
The Intake/Exhaust gasket is FPG MS91499, $8
HG = ~$55
MS = ~$9
Both "plus shipping".

If it's a US-spec SD22 you're working with, there is NO fuel cut solenoid. It should have an Inline-style IP. See the pics in this post to see the gross distinctions between the Inline and Rotary IPs.nissandieselcrazy wrote:How about a part number for fuel shut off /control solenoid mine has been out seance the day I bought it. I rigged a manual shut off, but it would be nice to have it working.
If you have a Rotary IP, there is a fuel cut solenoid. It rarely fails, and is cheap & easy to replace.
If you have an Inline IP (the correct IP for an SD22 in a 720), you have a DPC (Digital Pump Controller) which does more than just shut off the fuel. It puts the IP into Start (overfuel) mode for cold starts, and it turns off the fuel in the case when the oil pressure drops, as a safety.
For the DPC system, you are going to have to be a LOT more specific. The DPC engine control system is complex, there are three main of parts to it, and the most common failure is the DPC Module's relay's contacts. I have parts for the DPC system, including the IPC and the DPC module. I can also repair the DPC Module with a new relay.
And you can still buy the DPC parts new from Nissan. They are not cheap.

Al S.

At the DPC System link above, specifically this post . . .
. . . but that's no substitute for having the FSM that walks you through the system. Get a Factory Service Manual for any SD22 (1982 is the best year for a generic SD22 FSM), you are going to need it for the oddities of the DPC system and pneumatic governor.
There is a link to a few pages of DPC testing buried within that thread. I highly suggest you read the whole thread.
There's also [url=a short movie of me testing three IPC motors[/url].
