39 MPG!
Just to brag,
My last 280 mile round trip from Seattle to Marblemount/Cascade Pass trailhead burned 7.1 gallons of B60. I drove on I-5, and secondary highways, with a significant amount (45mi) on steep/twisty/gravel roads in third gear. On the highway, aside from trafic jams in Everett, I drove 55-65.
Yay!

Speaking of "high miles", how many miles on your engine/truck and what engine tune-up work has been done?

Philip-
My truck has about 140k miles. After I got it a couple of months ago I, changed the trans and diff to full synthetic fluid, replaced the thermostat so that the truck would reach operating temp(and coolant flush), adjusted valves, change half of the fuel lines to BioD compatable, and aired up the tires to 35 psi. Oh, I almost forgot, I applied "super aerodynamic" blue paint from a rattle can shortly after purchase. Looks pretty good.
This is what will make you think I'm nuts. After getting that great economy, I pulled the injectors(!) to try to fix my cold start smoke show. On the bench the injectors displayed initial stickyness and very poor spray pattern, improving with more fuel cyled through, but the pintle would still hang up occasionaly. I got 'em renozzled, and this morning...NO SMOKE!!(almost) on startup.
I should mention, in the spirit of full disclosure, that I drive like the poverbial grandmother. I'm that guy who everybody is cussing at as I milk the truck away from the stop light. I have found this to make the biggest difference in fuel economy (aside from mechanical problems), simply accelerating gently.
I did run into some confusion about the correct sealing washers for SD22 injectors, the information posted here was very helpfull. The rebuild was $230 at H and H diesel in Milton, they seemed to have the best rates in the Seattle area and did the work in two days.

I bet I'm slower than youI should mention, in the spirit of full disclosure, that I drive like the poverbial grandmother.

I drive using cruise control everywhere, and I set it at the speed limit. Really pisses people off.

Rather than see white knuckles and gritted teeth behind me, I go for a little humor. I want to believe most people can put together Datsun / Diesel / "Over the Hill" and get a laugh.moose60 wrote:SNIP I'm that guy who everybody is cussing at as I milk the truck away from the stop light. Re: 39 MPG!
Delivered medium portable generator out to Palmdale.
Topped off fuel in Anaheim.
Hwy 57n / 210w / I-5n / Hwy 14n Palmdale (delivery)
Hwy 138e / I-15s / I-215s / Rt 91w Anaheim (finish, refuel)
240 mi / 5.8 gallons. 41.3 mpg
Never exceeded 60 mph. Am experimenting with IP settings and warm air intake.

Fuel Economy
I took several trips around the Puget Sound (Vancouver Island, Southern Oregon etc.) region in the late summer, and the truck returned between 37.5 and 41.25 MPG. I had two consecutive tanks above (barely) 40 MPG, with an average around 39 on petrodiesel, and about 37.5 MPG on biodiesel. Even with the price of diesel exceedng gasoline, even premium, this is an efficient little pickup. My other Asian pickups have given 25-31 MPG on gasoline.

But that's using Imperial gallons, correct?zen wrote:sd33 turbo..averages 22mpg...
1 Imperial gallon = 1.2 US gallon
Using this correction, 22 mp(imperial)g gives 18.3 mp(us)g
This seems low to me . . .
