LD28T

Hi, anyone running a LD28T? I know no automobile came with one stock but I know for a fact some forklifts did. I'm wondering though if anyone here has done the swap themselves.

I did a search and found nothing on it so even if no one as it may be fun to discuss.

If you know for a fact that there is a factory turbo'd LD28, you are the only one I've met who knows that.

The LD20T did come with a factory turbo, and there are pics of them on this site, but I am not aware of the Six ever being available from Nissan with a turbo.

SD33, yes.
LD20T, yes.
LD28, no.

A couple of folks have added a turbo to the LD28, and there are a couple of threads that show pictures of how that was accomplished. In particular, you might read this thread and this thread.

There was a typo there on my part. No US automobile came with a LD28T but I know 100% some forklifts did. Beyond that the Laurel did too, factory stock not retrofit. I have the stock repair manual sitting half dilapidated in my basement that a picked on on yahoo japan so apparently datsun knows it as well.

I appreciate the links (1st I believe is wrong) but there is no need to be so snippy esp when your wrong.

laurel and cedric diesel turbo.LD28T/RD28T im guessing these are like sports taxi.these cars are popular with fleet and commercial uses it a common thing for cars to be built to suit the customer and you find lots of strange combinations, this is no longer the case.sad.turbo was very common in japan late 70's.laurel cars have also been built in serveral countries adding to strange specs.

LD28T is listed for busses.L28S [carby] is the common fit and it would make sence that the LD28T was fitted instead of a larger patrol engine.these busses use the truck mechanicals and these come with a wide range of engines from Z16 to TD42T.i think these are suited to fast moving flat roads.

old used factory turbo cedric turn up in europe and new zealand and look very after market, untill recently i thought they looked like forklift engines fitted to cars.

some other parts books get confused in countries with capacity constraints and local assembled cars get LD20T to reduce tax.

laurel has always listed a diesel sports model-the late models have RD28Ti engines in a full option beast.i would think older models excist and saw out life as taxi in japan russia or africa.
its strange that no mention of a LD28T in the sports skyline range--different dealers different buyers.i also thik its strange that diesels are fitted to wagon in europe but not sold in japan.

If you come across another of these Nissan manuals that have information about an LD28T, please let me know, I'd be interested in purchasing it.
I appreciate the links (1st I believe is wrong) . . .
Thanks for dbl-checking that, I left out one "3" in the link, it's fixed now.

You know I'm wrong, but I don't know that, and I've been doing this a long time. If you think I was being snippy, I suggest you re-read what I wrote. I didn't write that you were wrong, I wrote that you're the only one I've met who knew for a fact that the LD28T exists. If you take that as a slam, that's on you.

ld28 turbo

I know the turbo was available in other areas of the world...however not North America. I purchased turbo pistons from New Zealand for one of the two LD's I am doing presently.

Also...reading on another area regarding the use of discarded oil as fuel. I have been doing it for years. If you are worried about emissions...look what a waste oil heater puts out...and the NOx emissions increase the bio-fuels expell. NOx increases 2-28%...depending on engine design/series. Also...bio still has to be mixed with fossil to function correctly. Depending on what you burn...performance is "different" each time. No Consistancy.

Please reply to other threads...

...in the other threads.

I think several would be interested in some contact info for vendors you have used for overseas LD parts. New Zealand should be an LD goldmine from what I can tell.

Did your turbo pistons reduce the compression ratio to allow for higher boost? In other words, what made them turbo pistons?

The other part of this that you didn't mention is that BD is sulfur-free, so cheap NOx catalytic converters actually work. In this context, it is finally possible to mfgr and warranty much cleaner roadgoing diesel vehicles.

There are legacy diesel engines whose NOx emissions do not rise when switched from petrodiesel to BD.

Burning used lube oil means the additives and contaminants in the oil are either aerosolized or oxidized. Some of those are heavy metals. I do not think it's reasonable to equate those with mildly increased NOx emissions.
Also...bio still has to be mixed with fossil to function correctly.
This is completely incorrect.

If the fuel meets ASTM D6751, there is no inconsistency in performance. Perhaps you are referring to homebrew.
