WTB air intake hose

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

WTB air intake hose

#1

Post by goglio704 »

I need to buy the molded rubber hose which runs from the air cleaner to the intake. One of mine has a real nice split on the underside and I don't want to suck debris into the engine. Al, if you get a chance could you look this part up in your catalog? Given the way rubber deteriorates around here (ozone?) I might be better off with a new one. I bet Nissan is proud of them if they even still offer them. Anybody have a used one they'd like to part with? Thanks.

P.S. I wonder if a molded radiator hose would work? Seems like it would if it had the support coil on the inside...

I threw one away three weeks ago, on that '83 Gasser we dismantled. There's one on the '84 at the Lakewood JY; perhaps Carimbo hasn't gone there for his bumper and Dave's grille yet? I don't think I'll be going out there this weekend -- it's a looong drive and I'm out of cash this weekend, staying home.

Part No. for the L24e is 16578-W3200 (1982-on). It appears to be still availale, $42.

L24E? Is this part the same on the gasser?

This project began as a v-belt replacement, but it has expanded to the point that I just took the IP drive belt cover off to have a look around "while I was in there." I have a belt on order, and I'm not in a huge rush to get this back together. Al, is there anything I should get a picture of for the board while I'm at it? Are you still planning to replace your IP shaft seal with the pump in the car? I'm half tempted to put a viton seal in there while I'm this deep and still motivated  .

Sorry, Matt, I was thinking you were Kassim (gasser). No, they're not nearly the same as for the L24e.

The LD28 Duct for up to Jun82 is 16578-W2501, $63
The LD28 Duct for Jul82-on is 16578-W4900, $53

I didn't think to get one off the '82 at the JY six weeks ago. Could have.

Damn, I want acres and acres of junk cars! In my backyard. How sick is that?

I have not got a good set of pics on IP belt replacement. You're already too far apart for the disassembly pics, but if you have a decent camera and rudimentary composition skills, someday having a "How to Replace the IP Belt" post would be good. I mean, linking pics to the FAQ.

BTW, double-check the IP belt tensioner, I've had a couple I've removed that do not sound healthy.

16805-V0700, $57
The bearing inside is not easily replaced. I have a bad one I am hanging onto, trying to find a cheaper brg replacement solution. It looks as if I can't reuse the axle after I replace the brg, but I might look into having a "run" of axles machined. A local machine job shop has been very kind to me with this sort of thing. However, for now it's cheapest to just buy the thing from Nissan.

Also look hard at the front crank seal, it's a no-brainer to replace when you've got the IP belt off. Just be very careful removing the hub, to not damage the A/C condensor. If you're trying to replace the IP belt with the radiator still installed, forget about the crank seal, I don't think you can get the puller in there with the radiator installed -- and I always pull the radiator for the IP belt replacement anyway, it's much easier IMO. This is detailed in the FAQ, IP Belt section.

I finally got around to ordering this, and it is NLA according to nismoparts.com.

16578-W4900, $53

I wonder how different the other one is and if it is actually available.

The other one is not available either. They also suggested I email for availability before ordering in the future. :? Here's an idea, check the part numbers which the website will accept against what is actually available from time to time instead of having the customer do it for you.

I'm currently getting buy with a good wrapping of Scotch 88 - a premium professional electrical tape - but I can't go on like that forever. Used rubber parts are hit and miss in my estimation, but if somebody has a nice used intake hose, I'll give it a good home. I would like to figure out an aftermarket solution. It will have to be flexible since the air filter is mounted to the chassis. Any thoughts?

If we could get Philip in on this conversation, he's got links and pictures to the ricers intake stuff, including a flexible joint.

I may end up going to my local JY this next week and they did have an 82 sedan with the snorkel tube - gasser. If it's still there and intact, do you want it?

I appreciate the offer, but I think the gasser is too different to do me much good. Well, I say that, but I really don't know.

I don't either. Have still never seen one. Just wanted to throw it out there. The yard would probably only want a few bucks for it, so I thought I'd ask.

So Al,

How does the intake hose on the 83 wagon look?
