Stopped by that JY this afternoon, took a look at the grille and tailights. Grill is 9/10, just because the mylar has peeled off abt. 1/2 in. on a couple of the slats between the NISSAN badge and the end. Still want it?
The tailights are also 9/10, owing to a minor crack that goes up maybe 1 inch from the bottom center of the flat part, also minor dents same area in the metal surrounds. Other than that, very smooth and shiny, no scratches. Actually the cracks and small (1/2") dents are not that noticeable; hence Al's proclimation of "Perfect." Still want them?

I can run back for them. Just that the elements were working against me this time. See it started pouring down rain and hail and this particular JY is a mud swamp already-- my shoes were sucking up the oily muddy water from the bottom and the hail was blowing down my collar from the top and my hands in the middle couldn't even hold on to the screwdriver. I'll have to return another day-- with waders and raincoat if need be. Oh and a waterproof toolbox as well. I was navigating a semi-passable "pond" that was absolutely between the cars and the office (no way around it) when the wheelbarrow tire got suctioned into a quicksand section and toppled over, throwing my canvas toolbag over the gunnel into the sea. Saia do mar marinheiro. Well it was getting near time to wash it anyway.

Carimbo is not exaggerating one bit, there is this . . . swamp? . . . morass? . . . between the JY office exit and the first row of cars, and when I was there last Sat I had to run the wheelbarrow up over a curb into some uphill landscaping to avoid it -- and it was raining twice as hard today as last Saturday, really storming. Waders or newish galoshes is entirely appropriate for this JY.

Carimbo, could you see if you could pull the four injectors off that 720 I mentioned upthread? If they're still there. And would you be interested in this?

My take is that we all try to help each other where we can-- so I will give it a shot. Do you know what tool(s) are required? Just to make sure I have/bring them.
asavage wrote:And would you be interested in this? This truck is DRY underneath, no water at all under the transmission area, it's on high ground.
What? Same JY? Someplace there dry? NOWHERE there dry! Look, there were places there that were on the same level as class 4 rapids, only with an oily scum that would stain your raft. Otherwise, looked like it could be a fun adventure. Of course the "boulders" were actually rims & tires down there somewhere just below the surface of the river.

Let me dry out some more; I'll think about it again. Maybe.... Do you have a drysuit?

The 720 was on high ground last week; no telling what it's like this week but there *are* some drains in the place; I would think that some maximum water level would obtain (eventually). At any rate, it's certainly NOT worth laying in water or mud for, no way. But last week it was bone-dry under the trans, water at the front bumper though, where I was standing.

No, I don't know the wrench size. I am guessing 27mm or 30mm but that is only a guess. I'll email Philip and see what he has to say, he just had his out.

So . . . did you rescue the front bumper? And what other booty did you obtain? Come on . . . tell all.

Yes, I would still like them if you get a chance to get back over there.

I can't believe that you can find *any* diesel cars around. They are just plain rare around here.

The first diesel car I have ever seen in a JY was this past friday. beautiful 75 benz 100% complete, tagged in the LF fender. Nice looking car considering it's 30+ years old.

For removing the injector from the head, the 27mm would best be a
(very) DEEP socket, 1/2" drive.

27mm = 1-1/16" This is what I -actually- used to pull mine out
because ... necessity is the mother of alternatives. LOL
The lines are already off, so scratch the 17mm.

Did manage to get the front bumper, started to remove the tailights when it just started getting too miserable. Tried to sit it out by hiding in a van but even that was too cold-- and the rain/hail was not stopping. I was soaked muddy and shivering inside a minute. The only other thing I took was the voice warning switch. Wasn't too much else on there I needed. Who got the front struts?
Had to leave the grille inside the car-- the bumper was more expensive than I planned for.

OK, I will shoot over there early this week and pull the tailights. Do you want the bulb housing parts too (snap-in gray rectangle part w/ the bulb sockets, internal wiring, etc.)? The grille will be easy now; like I said, I left it inside the car.

This one wasn't a diesel, it was a gasser. Like Al reported, v. fine exterior, no rust, shiny.

PS: Abt. the weather-- Normally a 45 minute one-way trip, this time took quite a bit longer, saw FIVE separate nasty accidents on the freeway (one on the onramp), one involving a state trooper (car totalled), another one I actually saw happening, car did a 270 (headed into the wall) completing the curve on the onramp, starting the merge. I NEVER talk on the phone while driving, don't even like to talk to passengers.

The 720 KC PU is a diesel.

The front struts were still in there 10 days ago.

There was a mustard-colored 510 that was stripped in two days -- word got out in the NWDE forum, and two guys cut the ass off and bought it, another stripped the interour to the firewall, and the front sheetmetal was all gone the next day. 510s are rare and desireable in the PNW -- who'dve thunk?

Just the lenses would be fine. Mine have seen much better days, and I can't seem to find good replacements around here. Must be that 300+ days of sun per year. 8)

And if you could, I need the pass side front door striker plate if that plastic is still on the catch. The plastic on mine is broken off and the door is difficult to close. Wasn't thinking about it before they crushed the 2 we had around here.

Thanks. Let me know what I owe you.

But Ben, that mystery grille (with the molded-in "NISSAN") is only $13! How can you pass that up? Esp. since it's already pulled?

Got tailights and grille for Ben, now need to find a box and send them. That's about all I could do for these past few weeks; schedule should lighten up after next week. Sorry no injectors yet. Tranny a go if it's dry!
The "inside" staff at that JY sure don't go even an inch out of their way to make a customer's experience even slightly more pleasant, do they?

I worked hard at "charming monsters" when I was there, and was actually fairly successful. Doesn't always work, but I can sometimes pull it off.
