Brake booster vacuum pump on alternator

Hello,

I have a Land Rover with a LD28 engine.

I would like to install a brake booster in the Land Rover and for that I need the vacuum pump on the alternator.

I can see in the service manual that there are three hoses connected to the vacuum pump, but I cannot figure out where they should go to.

Can any one have a look, or take a picture?

Thank you
Pascal

Top to bottom:
  • Air in (from brake booster),
  • Pressurized oil in,
  • Oil & air out to crankcase.

That is an SD22 (LR150) alternator shown. LD28 (LR160) is very similar. The vacuum fitting (to brake booster) has a multi tap for many different hoses, rather than the SD's typical single connection with a tee.

Hi Al S. ,

Thank you for the info and pictures, and such rapid response.

There is indeed a connection to the crankcase for the "oil and air out".
There is a tube that comes from the top of the block down, bolted on the engine and with a 2nd bolt that seems to close the tube, I think that this could be the pressurized oil.

I will try to take some pictures tommorow (camera's battery is empty).

Yes, on the LD28, that is the pressurized oil line that lubricates and cools the vacuum pump.

I took some pics just now of my '82 Maxima Wagon's LD28 (click on any pic for larger):
