WTS Maxima dsl wgn conversion & parting 82 Maxima dsl se

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

Selling a couple Datsun / Nissan Maxima diesels and SD22 engine parts.

Image

1) 1982 Nissan Maxima diesel sedan 5-speed. Runs great - starts right up even after months of sitting. The car is complete but the body and interior are in awful condition. I was drawn to the LD28 with 5-speed and purchased for some awesome future project that never came to fruition. You know how that goes. I drove it around a bit and it could possibly be driven home with a little work. I pilfered the grill and wheels/tires for #2 below and the rear brakes were 'disabled' by the prior owner so you're pretty much on your own if you want to get it back on the road... It's a real piece of work. I am running short on space so the whole car is available this week for $850 so long as I do not have to do any work beyond demonstrating it's running condition. If it does not sell as a complete car, or if someone needs any specific parts, I will pull the motor this Saturday and will sell parts the following week. What remains will go to the scrap yard by Thanksgiving. I do not recall the mileage, but it did not seem high - I'd estimate <150k but I can consult the odometer if someone is serious.

2) 1984 Nissan Maxima wagon converted to diesel with a Maxima diesel LD28 and diesel AT. Starts right up and runs and drives pretty well. Has a manual push-button for the glow-plugs and (as noted in this forum some months back) does not contain every diesel piece as part of the conversion. Work was completed about 10 years ago pruportedly using an 80k mile drivetrain into this chassis with a little over 100k miles. It then sat outside. The interior is reasonably sound as is the body/engine but it could use some cleanup. I recently replaced the windshield and fuel filter. Issues I can recall. 1) Transmission 'park' setting does not lock the trans. 2) Driver's power window sticks - only rolls down a couple inches, 3) center console is pretty cracked up, 4) right-rear tail light has some corrosion and intermittent lighting, 4) Needs some sorting. I planned on sorting it out and using it myself but it is available for $1800 as it sits. Aside fromt he taillight flakiness, I'd be comfortable driving this a few hundred miles with nothing more than checking fluids and wiper blades and ensuring my AAA membership is current.

3) Nissan SD22 engine. Recieved with another 1-owner pickup. Disassembled for refresheming when the original owner got a good-used engine for his 200k mile 720 pickup. I'll take $350 for everything or let me know if you need specific parts.

4) Numerous other Japanese and German diesel engines, parts and projects. Check out my website for more info - http://dieselHead.net. You can reach me evenings at 206.419.9295

Hello, Adam. I wondered how long it'd be before you piped up ;)
1) 1982 Nissan Maxima diesel sedan 5-speed. . . . If it does not sell as a complete car, or if someone needs any specific parts, I will pull the motor this Saturday and will sell parts the following week. What remains will go to the scrap yard by Thanksgiving.
Member "bcdivad" is looking to convert is AT to 5-spd, though he is in NY and I don't know how seriously he wants the parts. The tricky part is the flywheel and associated bits there.
2) 1984 Nissan Maxima wagon converted to diesel with a Maxima diesel LD28 and diesel AT.
I posted your earlier pics in this thread.

Can you verify that the transmission is an '83? That is a one-year-only transmission and has overdrive. If the console switch labelled "overdrive" (has a green window, you can usually barely read the text) actually does something, then it's got the '83 L4N71B -- whether the diesel-specific 1983-only one, or the gasser one is anybody's guess, but OD is a desireable feature in the Gen1 Maxima diesels and increases the value of the vehicle.
2) Driver's power window sticks - only rolls down a couple inches
The only time I've run into this, it was the forward window channel folded over, when an installer put the glass in wrong. The window would go down about 3-4" only, then bind. It was a relatively easy fix, except I had to do the typical Gen1 door crack repair at the same time. Every Gen1 Maxima (except one) that I've seen has had a cracked door.

Al S.

I was looking at Adams webpage today, he has dropped the Maxi Wagon to $1300. He's at dieselhead.net (where he has a few more photos) if anyone's interested. I'm pretty sure that he does not check this site, but you can contact him through his own. He also has another LD28 and 5 speed manual for sale.

For $1250. Not to steal Adam's thunder, but I'm selling a whole, running 1983 Wagon for $800 (with OD AT), with no takers. Drive it home! $1250 sounds like a lot of cash for an LD28 that you can't hear run and for which you don't know the history. Buy it in a car, you can check out the smoke situation, run a compression check. A bare engine, you're taking the Seller's word for the condition. That's fine, if the Seller has a good reputation that is verifiable.

Or, for that matter, buy his '84 Wagon conversion for $1300. That way you get the electrics too. It's the least-expensive driver he's got listed.

Adam's got some really interesting stuff for sale on that page, including an 1984 Isuzu P'up diesel 2WD w/C223 & 5-speed for $2200. Mileage not listed, but looks decent.

Al S.

seems like the stuff is going pretty cheap IMHO. I figured the older diesels would be in higher demand...especially with gas/diesel prices going up.

This stuff (Nissan) is all over 20 years old now, and is largely very worn or worn out. Not necessarily the engines, but the vehicles as a whole. A Civic or Tercel gets as good mileage and has other advantages too. You pretty much have to be committed to diesel to take on one of these old beasts. Combine that with a general lack of knowledge in the repair field for them, and you also have to be a decent DIY-er (or be sleeping with one) to keep them running.

WVO isn't free, unless someone is coming over and pouring it in your tank for you. You have to collect it, filter it, live with it (smell & mess, not a little thing) and deal with its effects.

I get the feeling that the number of people actually doing WVO on a regular basis is a lot less than the hoopla indicates. I've run into a number of people who've experimented with WVO, but only know of one who is driving it full-time. Even with a well-thought-out conversion, it's a lot of work. My time is too valuable to spend futzing around that many hours/mo. to save $200/mo., which is my current diesel fuel budget.

Biodiesel, OTOH, is to a large extent pour-and-play, at least if you're buying it as I am. Making BD is work that I, again, don't want to do, but pulling up to a trailer and filling my tank "just like at a gas station" is easy, and exchanging dollar bills for a fuel that is domestically produced and is carbon-neutral is something I don't mind doing.
