Parting out 83 Maxima diesel wagon

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

#1

Post by Midnightz »

Update (May 17):
ign lock, door lock assy - asavage (I have one key for them)
instrument cluster - 83_maxima
oil filter base - goglio704
oil cooler - goglio704
radiator - kassim503 (it was in the back so I don't know if it was leaking, fins look good)
radio/tape player - kassim503
dome light controler - kassim503
upper/lower fan shroud - kassim503
fan/clutch assy - kassim503
glove box door - odie
dash pads - odie (no cracks)
driver visor - TheDieseliminator (brown color)
pass headlight bezel - TheDieseliminator (crack at lower back corner see linked page)
CC servo - asavage
hatch lift struts - asavage (still pretty strong)
hitch- odie
power window switch - 83_maxima (took them off as gentlely as I could, but crack some tabs)
GP controller - 83_maxima
transmission - asavage
drive shaft - asavage

I've created and will update this site to post photos of the parts car and the claimed/interested parts. I'll use the responses of this topic as the list to keep track of the parts to pull/save. Planning to scrap what's left after the weekend of the 19th.

Original post:
I bought 2 complete cars and a parts car in Nov of 06 to swap a LD28 in my 240Z. I've gotten the two complete cars running well so one of them will be a donor car, the other I'll sell. For now I am looking to part out the parts car. It seems to have most of the parts on it, but I am keeping the following parts (for the duration of my swap for just in case):

Engine
injection pump
starter
alternator
intake manifold
GP controller
driver seat track
driver door
driver front fender
tail lamps
hub caps

I am planning on taking off as much parts in a day as possible and scrap the rest of it... Wife's patient is wearing thin... :(

Let me know what you're interested in and I'll post a pic of it. Low balls welcome from the members here, just give me a price to make it worth my time to pack and ship. If you are not buying it at this time, (chances are I'll still take it off) I'll store it until someone buys it or I run out of storage space. Heck, if you bring a Quizno's sandwich, you might be able to have what you want for free!

The driver window has been left open for at least a year so the driver seat and carpet are not savageable.

Other semi-useful parts to save are:
  • Front turn sigs
  • front marker lamp assys (esp.!)
  • Turn sig switch (MF switch) (have to remove steering wheel but it comes off without a puller if necessary)
  • Ign. lock assy., even if no keys (I will buy this one) (requires Dremel or chisel work to remove)
  • OEM Radio
  • Inside rearview mirror (be very careful when removing, the base breaks very easily)
  • Shift console (if not cracked all to bits)
  • CC switch
  • Hazard switch
  • Instrument cluster
  • Both dash pads if not cracked up
  • Wiper motor (seems like it interchanges with other period Nissans)
  • Harmonic balancer! (goes with engine)
  • Door locks (Carimbo needs a Sedan trunk lock), even if you have no keys, I can use them and would pay a little for them
  • Console window switch (the plastic mounting breaks, be careful)
Anything else? Other than the instrument cluster, all of that will fit in one box. If you don't want to store them and noone wants to buy, I'll store those items for future redistribution.

Now would be a good time to mention again that I have a pair of brown '83 front seats that are dirty but good otherwise, and a very nice brown '83 hood. Both of which I would give to a good home (I have pics somewhere). Body parts like this require too much of my storage space.

I could still use a good front bumper cover, but from WA to TN is probably impractical to ship.

I'd be interested in an 83 oil filter base and oil cooler if you have one and are willing to separate it from an engine. In addition to $$, I would be willing to provide an 82 oil filter base and cooler to keep your engine complete, but you would be getting the short end of the transaction since the 83 has bypass filtration. The 82 filter is cheaper and easier to find though...

I really could use the upper half of the radiator fan shroud.

IIRC, you are not willing to ship the seats, are you?

Ugh. After building the crate for shipping the 720 dash to AZ, and then finding out that the dash was damaged when it got there anyway, I really don't think the economics work out.

Just checking. You're probably right. Since I can't find any Gen1 Maximas in local yards, I've started my own very specialized operation.

I need the glove box door. I'll have to take a look at my car tonight to see what else I need. And the dash pads too.

But these cars are kinda disappearing. You can strip them and save most everything. Someone wants whatever odd piece you might have.

I stripped my 914 Porsche and sold every last nut & bolt.

Hi, what color is the interior? I'm in need of a driver's side sun visor because of the plastic breaking around the mounting screw that is on the far left of the headliner. My car has a grey interior though and yours may not match. But I at least had to ask you know. Oh, and I'm also in need of a passenger side headlight bezel that goes around the two headlights on the outside of the middle grille. Does anyone know where to get a whole carpet kit to replace from the firewall to the back seat? Thanks and I appreciate your reply.

Save the PS pump, it's unique to the LD28 (not used on the gasser).

I see the damper's pulled. Hope you got that, it's a little harder to find than most, though they can be rebuilt if you have a core.

The CC will not pull in on my '83 Wagon. It's just barely possible that a buyer may want CC -- just in case, would you pull the CC servo, it's cable to the sheave on the manifold, and the two solenoids underneath the servo on the firewall? I don't know that I'll need them for this Wagon, but it's possible. They take up little room anyway.

Overall, that '83 Wagon looks better than my daily driver '82! It's a shame it's getting scrapped, but it does look like a lot of work, esp. with the IP out and interiour weather damage.

The LR taillamp is unique to the Wagons, of course.

Are the hatch lift struts any good? Mine are weak (have to use a prop in cold weather) and have been for years. I'm too cheap to replace them, since I (until recently) wasn't driving it. If those struts seem powerful, I might pay a few bux for them. I don't know why, my long-term plans for this '82 Wagon are the same as yours: pull the drivetrain for a different body. Meanwhile, I seem to get a lot of use out of it, so I try to keep it in reasonable condition.

The brake booster is a 1983-diesel-only unit, because it contains the vacuum warning switch setup.

I keep the "Talking Lady" voice modules when I find them. Above the driver's side knee bolster panel, screwed to the panel so it's always having to be disconnected when you take the panel down to do anything.

The pics of that dash pad look good. Odie will be pleased.

The '83 Wagon rear speakers are '83-84 Wagons only.

No, but Midnightz is. I have what is basically a front cut (dash forward) of an 82 diesel sedan. I am not trying to sell parts from it, but I will help people here on the forum if they really need something and can't find and rescue it at a local yard. The stuff I have is safe from the scrapper. Anything left that is not badly rusted, bent, or broke will be kept. Many of the parts are needed for repairs or spares on my cars, but like I said , I'll help people here if they need it. With that said, I can't help with a fan shroud. I need the upper half of one myself as my parts car didn't come with one and I have one that is broken.
