I've decided to list my 1983 nissan maxima diesel. This car has been the most solid car I've ever owned. Runs perfect. The body is in excellent shape with no dents or rust. The interior is a bit worn, but still fine. Runs excellent. I've run 80/20 bio diesel with no problems. $1700
Heres some points of interest:
155K
Air Conditioning (WORKS!!)
Power locks/windows
V6
A link to the listing would be handy. If it is automatic, I'm interested. Once again this brings up the question: Why so many Gen 1 Maximas and diesels in general in the Pacific Northwest? I know a couple of you up there scour Craig's list more than I do and consequently find more than I do, but that is not the entire explanation.

Craigslist seems to be really big in Seattle in Portland, which might be part of it. Also, a lot of people here are into biodiesel, so more of these vehicles
The car is automatic. Do any of you local to the area have time to look at it. Possibly take some pics?

83 automatic. That should be the L4N71B shouldn't it?

I'm not really "local" to Portland, like a couple of our members here (I did live there for a couple of years, and ten years in Oregon, ending in 2001). But if nobody else can help, I guess I could drive down there and do a pre-purchase inspection of sorts. It would eat a weekend, 500 miles round trip, and about $75 of fuel, so I'd like that to be your "Plan B".
I could stay over with a friend, so no motel involved.

I don't want to put anybody out. I would expect to compensate anybody willing to do this. I am serious about wanting the car if the condition is good, but I can see the logistics being a problem. Is anybody closer than Al willing to be plan "A" ?

The posting expired and it looks like they haven't relisted it
I might be able to, but don't have tons of time
I also am not the best mechanic or anything, but can look for the basics or any specific things you want me to keep an eye out for
I exchanged emails the day after the listing expired, and they still had it. I'd say the biggest thing I'd be interested in is whether the car is as rust free as they say. Another thing would be whether the car will start without drama when cold. If it will, it says good things about glow plugs, compression, and injection. I'll give it some more thought, but those are some big items right there. I will get in touch with them and ask some more questions and get back to you. If you can go look at some point when it is convenient for you, that would be great. If not, I certainly understand.
Thanks,
Matt B.

The car is still there. I have been exchanging emails with the seller. Trying to figure out a plan to get it back if I buy it.
I could drive out and trailer it home. This would take a lot of time and fuel.
I could fly out with the Mrs. and drive it back. She has never been out west and would love the trip. The downside to this is that it could turn into a nightmare. If I were to attempt this, I'd probably UPS a box of tools and parts out there to have for the return trip.

This seems like more trouble than it's worth, but if you really want this car, maybe we could work it out:
I'm planning a trip right now to drive to New Orleans and then Miami.
I'm leaving a week from Monday.
I was going to drive my VW Dasher, but if you were willing to pay for my fuel, the flight back, and any necessary repairs before I leave, maybe I could drive it out to you.
I could probably get it to you by February 1st.
If that sounds like something you'd want to do, email me at lacolocho@gmail.com (not a reply on this topic) and I'll be thinking about it.
