real simple conversion for a L28 turbo gas.
IT'S called a RB30ET.500-1000 HP.
LPG produces less calories,so you produce less tourque.
in an older style factory engine it is cleaner burning and the mix is better, so with a tractor like cam and high compression it will feel much better.

Damn! Well, I fouled that one up.asavage wrote:(apostrophe: award to the cat with the best ass)
That should have read:
catastrophe: award to the cat with the best ass
The joke is kind of lost, using the wrong word. Sigh.

This has not been born out in many tests. Yes, LPG is less energy-dense than other liquid fuels, and gaseous fuels displace air so the total charge reaching the cylinder is somewhat less. That's what the turbo and higher compression is for: to compensate for those. And turbo technology these days makes significant boost at low RPM -- torque is better, not worse.davehoos wrote:LPG produces less calories,so you produce less tourque.

Who gets credit for the term crank pirate anyway? I think it is original to this site. Seriously though, olie05, you are welcome here, even if you are a crank pirate and a block pirate. I think it is good that there is some cross pollenation between diesel and gas going on. Some of us dieselists may one day be turbo pirates.
I knew there was a rule about its. I just never remember the actual rule - just that there is one. Its (possessive pronoun) has no apostrophe just as his, hers, theirs, and ours (possessive pronouns) have no apostrophe.

Keep in mind that if you take advantage of more fuel/air (pretty much have to on a gasser), it's not as simple as just hanging a turbo off the side. The compression ratio should be reduced, the pistons should be forged (rather than cast), and most turbo'd engines have oil squirters pointed at the bottoms of the pistons.kassim503 wrote:I may turbo my maxi soon
You don't have to do all those things, if you don't use the turbo much and aren't trying to get a whole lot of power out of it.
Because I'm not going to add more fuel to my LD28 when I add the turbo, I don't have to do those mods, but that's diesel -- not gas.

I'm working on that. I will let you know the specifics when I find out.kassim503 wrote:I may turbo my maxi soon

thanks for the link asavage. I will save that info for when I build this engine.
I have talked to DAW, on hybridz, not on ZCAR. He used the diesel shortblock entirely. In my conversation with him he mentioned the idea of using custom pistons and rods, and getting the rod/stroke ratio around 1.8:1, through the use of 150mm rods and 33ish mm pin height pistons. That would be the route I would take. Lightened riciprocating assembly, and balanced everything. The LD rods are quite hefty. I have played around ALOt with ozdat's engine building utility.
