I don't need another one, I just need the ones I have to run properly, not dying a half block from my house.asavage wrote: 3 days ago In case you need another SD25 . . . Auburn is "south Seattle":

I put the 720 turbodiesel back on the road a week ago, I am driving it now to make it dependable.

Re: My 1969 Datsun 521 kingcab
I just got back from a diesel place and they could not even get it together, They could not take the number off the pump and get O-rings for it, I guess I will use the almost new forklift injection pump O-rings for now to get my 521 diesel running again.

Maybe reach out to these guys.
The are in Texas
https://www.thedieselstore.com/product/ ... rSySeaBIFi
Might be worth an email or a phone call to see if they have the bits you need.
Maybe
Sounds like the guys you went to weren't too interested in helping you.
The place I used to go to here is closed now sadly.

Re: My 1969 Datsun 521 kingcab
Viton o-rings can be purchased based on size: ID, OD, and cross-section. The trick is knowing what size to order. A sample is helpful, but precision measurement of the groove/pocket is required, not optional, because most people cannot accurately measure even a brand-new, never-touched-fluid o-ring.
In addition to my best guess size, I generally order a size larger and a size smaller, since shipping is often more than the cost of the o-rings themselves, and I get an assortment of which at least one size should fit, and if not I'll be a lot better informed for the second parts order cycle.

Re: My 1969 Datsun 521 kingcab
OK, it is running and I hope nothing goes south/wrong, it was not a nice starting of the engine, it was missing and knocking like a rod was shot, squeaking, a lot of noise for someone that a doctor basically said I was deaf.
It appears I was not careful enough and got dirt in #4 cylinder, it ran like crap, the idle was higher than I like and I could not get it down, it sounded bad above idle when revved a little(not high revs, just to 2000rpms maybe), the knocking sounded terrible, I started opening the injector line connections to bleed them while running to see if there was air in some of the lines, they all acted the same except #4, I opened and closed that line and all of a sudden the noise got way better, I expect a piece of dirt got in the injector and open and closing the injector fitting gave it what it needed and it cleared, it ran without knocking from then on, the idle is back to normal after test driving it.
I found a exhaust noise after being left alone to concentrate on the issue, if I lifted the turbocharger by the outlet the noise went away, it first I thought it was the turbocharger, it has been moving/leaking for a long time but I cannot get the bolts tighter or looser, but when I lifted the output where the hose leads to the intake the noise got significantly better, I thought about making an adjustable bracket that connected to the turbo and the head bolt threads, but it did not look easy, my friend earlier said the noise was over this way pointing to the injection pump, but I am half deaf so I took a screw driver, stuck it against my ear hard and started trying to find where the noise was, well it turned out to be one of the nuts/gasket close to the valve cover side of the engine was not loose but leaking, I was able to get that nut off, I put a thicker washer on that threaded post and tightened it down as hard as I dared and the noise was close to being gone as far as a deaf person can hear.
I also twisted the turbocharger as it moves slightly, there is Black exhaust gasses around where it slightly moves and leaks, well it does not move anymore as I tried to move it several times, I think it is time to go to a turbocharger place that rebuilds them and take the extra 1986 Subaru XT turbocharger to be rebuilt, I have had it apart once when I received it and cleaned it up, put it back together and it spun a lot easier, it had sat on a shelf for years, well it has sat on a shelf for years at my house and is hard to spin again, I chose this route as that turbocharger hands down had the best result over all the other turbochargers I have tried, nothing else is even close, the 720 SD25 turbocharger is different, it has a lot of torque, it will tow easily, but it does not have the acceleration the 521 kingcab diesel engine has, they are two completely different animals, they will both do a 100 miles an hour no problem(103mph is 4000rpms which is redline/max RPMs), but the 1969 Datsun 521 SD25 turbocharged diesel gets there much quicker with that Subaru turbocharger.
I drove this truck today without an issue so far, I will likely drive it for the rest of the week, but need to get back in the 720 to make it reliable/dependable, I had a completely new exhaust system put in it yesterday, it is a lot quieter now, it does not sound like the transmission or rearend is getting ready to blow up anymore, but 5th gear has a slight noise, I pulled the fil plug and put my finger in gear oil, it looked brand new, like it was just changed, who knows..............

I forgot to mention that I used the fittings from that extra forklift injection pump with good o-rings in this truck injection pump, no more leaking, I spun them in all the way before with my fingers and made sure the o-rings settled into the hole without getting deformed, then I tightened them not that hard with my breaker bar, certainly not harder than it took to loosen them, except for likely the dirt that got in.
