Trying to find year by LD28 engine number

#1

Post by T-note »

Hi all,

I have just bought a Holden one tonne ute with an LD28 turbo engine, have heard that the earlier model LD28's sometimes go in the big end bearings when turbo'd.

Was wondering if any of you would be able to help to see whether my LD28 is an earlier or later model, the engine number is QL638076, what other information would I need?

Cheers Terry.

Hello, Terry:

I'm not aware of any reference material that allows me to determine the relative or absolute age of a particular LD2x engine based on the casting number or serial number.

My '83 Maxima Wagon ("Myrna") has a block number of "LD28 118706", which is located below No. 5 glow plug for those following this at home.

Could we have some more pictures of the turbo portion of that engine, please?
Regards,
Al S.

thats cool thanks for your help, It will probably be another couple of weeks before I can take some more pics of the turbo.

By memory I think it is off a toyota, not sure what model. But I will post more as I go.
