Saying "Hello"!

Hi there,

I came to this site when I read a post by Ben (83_maxima) in Hybridz.org. I was looking for ld28 that I can swap into a 240Z after some surfing on the “veggie car” and thought: “That sounds easy! I can do it and be the coolest dad in the neighborhood!” 8) I sent Al (asavage) a private email on where to look for a LD28 that I can transplant into a 240Z. He directed me to several past posts in “Peddle or Procure it” (Thanks, Al). So I contacted a local seller and bought these 2 and 1/2 83 Maxima's last November. My plan is to take the best running ld28 and sell or part the rest. The preferred scenario is to put the ld28 from the “1/2 83” in the 240Z and re-sell the two complete 83.

Fast forward to last night, I finally got some time work on the sedan. Its symptom when I tried to test drive the cars matched one of the common problems. But the problem I had was a different wire bundle in the same vicinity. As soon as I connect the batter cables to the battery, the wire bundle that’s right next to the positive starter cable started to smoke.

Most of the casings in that bundle were melted together and shorted the wires. It was interesting to me that it didn’t short a fuse first; although the seller did say that one of the fuses would short after a long drive. After about an hour of splicing and soldering, I was able to remove the trouble maker.

Thanks in advance for the many forth coming requests for help.

Funny, I bought a leftover L4N71b transmission from Santiago, who I think is the same guy you bought the lot from.

On the photo hosting: although a browser will accept the MIME type that that hosting site sends, and display the result, it is not a form that the bbCode feature of this forum software will accept, for security reasons. bbCode will only accept a URL that ends with .jpg, .gif, and .png , and I like it like that: that restriction plugs a big security hole.

You can upload photos you want hosted here to my upload page and then PM me that you've done so, and I can host them local. Or you can use another photo hosting service -- there are several.

Bear in mind that you can edit you post at any time.

Also bear in mind that a long URL will force everyone to scroll horizontally to read your missive. I've taken the liberty of chopping up the URLs in your post above to avoid that, since they don't display anyway, and there was a missing '[' before a URL= link that I fixed, so now we can all read this thread without reaching for the horizontal scroll bar ;)

Looking forward to hearing/seeing more about your 'brid.
Regards,
Al S.

Yes, I saw that transmission. I tried to get him to include it in the "package", but he didn't give it up... I was being a little greedy :?

I edited my post to include a link to my "blog" that I'll used to organize the pics from my project.

Last night, I got it to start and drove it up and down my street. It's definitely a diesel.
