[to follow the foregoing, you'll need to first
read this section of the FAQ on Injection timing of the LD28. Then:
c) Because there is no official "piezo pulse method" timing number for the LD28 -- we're supposed to use the static timing method outlined in the FSM, using a tool that
Dr.Jones has fabbed from a similar tool for other Bosch VE IPs -- I don't know what "normal" is, when using the Tach-N-Time, because I've never had a freshly-correctly-timed-by-the-book LD28 available to me to cross-check what timing the Tach-N-Time will yield. Naturally, Nissan only provides reference numbers for the mechanical timing method, not for timing via luminosity proble nor via injection pulse adapter. We need to develop our own numbers.
That's why
Dr.Jones has one of my Tach-N-Time units: he's just mechanicaly timed one or both of his LD28s (one manual trans, the other AT; timing is different for each), and he's going to tell me (us) what the reported-by-Tach-N-Time timing is at idle. I will eventually mechanically time one of my LD28s, and I'll do the same. With that data, we will then be able to check for correct injection timing casually on any of our rigs using a Tach-N-Time rather than opening up the ass-end of the IP (and disconnecting/reconnecting the Cold Start Device's control cable) and using fragile tools and precision guesswork to merely check the IP timing. This will make timing checks a
lot easier.]
====================================
Yes, it will display a digital indication of RPM in one window, and the degrees offset in the other.
If you are going to set it with the indicator and then shoot it maybe we can compare #'s.
Yes, that's the plan. You & I will both do independent measurements, and if they're close, we can continue to use the numbers for future use of the Tach-N-Time.
Oh, yeah why I started writing this message make sure your indicator will fit in the adapter before you start cutting it probably this is probably a waste of my typing skills, but I'd hate to see you cut it up and it not fit. I have a standard Indicator and a metric and only the metric will work with this tool. I'm not sure if indicators are standard sizes or what.
Good point, and I'll know more when the adapter arrives late this week.
