I thought I'd replied to this, but I don't see it . . .

Mine is a reduction type and I have looked at some of the other pictures that are posted of them and it seems different even from those. ( I will look closer at it when I get it back though)
I would appreciate those pictures.
Will any Nissan SD2X series starter with the 9 tooth pinion work in the SD 25.
I don't know. I suspect it will, but I don't
know that.

I just checked NAPA, and they list the same starter choices for 1982 SD22 & 1985 SD25. I think that they're interchangeable.
Raylock Premium rebuild, GR style, 446001, $197
Beck-Arnley rebuild, DD style, 1870354, $170
Can I use the DD one?
AFAIK, the GR & DD starters are physically interchangeable. I've seen both styles on SD22s.
Next time trans comes out I will do the ring gear as well. If not a new one will turn this one 90 degs.
I seem to find wear at four places on Fours, though almost always worse at one spot. Will turning the flywheel 90° help?
Are the ring gears available or are they different from application to application. ie: Heavier flywheel in fork lifts etc?
For the '86 720 SD25, Nissan lists a part No. for the ring gear, separate from the flywheel:
Ring gear =
12312-37501, $112
Flywheel =
12310-P0704, $280
NAPA lists the flywheel, but not the ring gear separately (using application 1986 720 SD25, of course, since your D21 SD25 truck doesn't really exist!). NAPA SDF 304, $58, but that number doesn't come up on the retail NAPA site, only on their ProLink (dealer) site.
