Greetings and an SD22 Lift Pump ?

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Greetings and an SD22 Lift Pump ?

#1

Post by Barkeywayne »

Hello all, new owner of a Chrysler-Nissan SD22PU engine here.

Just acquired a Chicago Pnuematic CP185 air compressor with an SD22 Nissan diesel installed. This is a Chrysler CN4-33 variant.

Have been trying to get it running and am thinking it may need a new lift pump. It is a mechanical diaphragm-type pump with an inverted glass fuel separator bowl, as pictured.

Was wondering if anyone had any idea where I might source this pump or even a rebuild kit for it? I can provide any other info if you need it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I am not familiar with this part, it might take some time to get a response, you could try asking a forklift business or a diesel injection service place, they see all sorts of stuff.

I have spoken with a local diesel injection service and a place that specializes in foreign gas and diesel engine repair in general. I will see what I can find out from a forklift service.

The injection service told me the injector pump (Nihon-Cav brand) was looking for 3-7 psi on the diesel supply line from the lift pump.

My plan is to find a complete OEM-type replacement mechanical lift pump or a rebuild kit for it...if I can't find that to convert to a low pressure electric fuel pump to replace the mechanical one.

Thank you for your reply waynosworld.

Every lift pump I have ever seen does not look like that, there is no glass involved, the only thing I have that has a clear housing is my pre-filter on my firewall with its own primer, the SD22 has a lift pump on the side of the injection pump itself that is run by a lobe on a cam, it also has a primer, it looks something like this in this photo, this injection pump is from a boat I think but i do not know for sure.

This is our SD22 lift pump.

I have seen your type of integral lift pump on that injector pump (Kiki?).

My SD22 has the Nihon-Cav injector pump and an outboard lift pump. And it seems the CN4-33 Chrysler variant also indicates marine usage. Not having much luck finding any parts yet but I do have a couple of leads.

The search goes on, thanks! 8)
