Hi,
I have a LD28 engine from a Maxima AT with 220K miles. The engine was running strong when removed, about 4 years ago. Since then it was stored in the garage. I was turning the crankshaft once a while. Now I am ready to put the engine in a Jimmy/S10 2 WD truck. There is enough room in the bay, so it should fit. I have a 4-speed MT from a 720 pick-up and the matching drive shaft. One problem could be the oil pan. I did not know that there was also a rear sump oil pan available for this engine. My questions are:
1. does the dealer carry such rear sump oil pan, if not where can I get it?
2. is a flywheel from a 280Z engine O.K? If so, will the original starter work?
3. what are the timing chain replacement intervals?
Thanks.

I dont have a diesel motor, nor am I qualified in messing around with diesels, but this thread may help you out, I think the answer was no, but im busy upgrading my house to 200 amps, and its getting dark out...

No set replacement interval for timing chain. FSM gives procedure for installing the timing chain (p. EM-37) that includes adjusting the cam timing relative to the chain (presumably to compensate for chain wear); if it needs more compensation than the number 3 adjustment hole in the camshaft sprocket provides, it says to replace the chain.
Cam timing (due to timing chain elongation) is implicated as possibility in several symptoms: Difficult/no start; Unstable idle; Excessive white or black smoke; Low power.
I have heard that accelerated timing chain wear can be caused by elevated soot levels in the oil, i.e. over extended oil change intervals or non-diesel rated oil.
